Astrology of Spring 2025: Preparing for a Season of Change
Navigating the Retrogrades, Eclipses, and Planetary Shifts
The astrology of Spring 2025 is shaping up to be a cosmic rollercoaster ride, with a potent blend of two planetary retrogrades in Aries and late Pisces. Add to it the lunar and solar eclipses, and the three outer planets changing signs, and we have a lot to unpack.
Though spring officially begins with the Spring Equinox, this year’s astrological Spring season kicks off with a Venus retrograde beginning March 2nd. These transits will bring in a surge of new energy, stirring up emotions, and potentially causing disruptions in our lives.
I feel fortunate to work with astrology because it is "a symbolic language tool" that helps decode and unpack the chaos of life. In the words of evolutionary astrologer Steven Forrest, astrology “acts as a "Rosetta Stone" to understand our experiences and potential for growth, rather than simply predicting the future.
During times of intense change, when chaotic socio-economic and political shifts are occurring, more and more people seek reassurance and peace of mind at key turning points that there is some form of order in the universe. Astrology often gives extra confirmation to what a person already intuitively knows through other means. Understanding how current transits impact us can help prioritize our attention on what matters most.
To help navigate the coming changes this spring, the key lies in comparing your own chart to where and how the current transits interact with natal planets and angles. These events shape every astrological cycle, but in 2025 we have such dramatic changes going on that it is clear that we are experiencing larger societal shifts in time that will impact all of us for decades to come.
Venus Retrograde: Mar 2-Apr 13
Dates and signs:
Venus will be retrograde from March 2 at 10 Aries and lasting through to 24 Pisces on April 13. In the last three or so days of March, as Venus makes its way back to Pisces, we also have Mercury at Zero Aries. Both Mercury and Venus foreshadow and pave the way for NEPTUNE moving into Aries on March 30th, Zero Aries is also known as the World Point. The last time Neptune was in Aries was the start of the Civil War in the U.S, more on that in my previous post.
Themes and effects:
Venus Retrograde can bring challenges in relationships, finances, and inner values. Venus is connected with women and the current cycle of Venus retrograde in Aries relates to the male impulse found in assertive and direct Mars, the ruler of Aries, and the warrior archetype within women, which is not an easy or comfortable wardrobe or role for Venus which is the feminine impulse of receptivity and fertility.
It's a time for reassessing values, desires, and our human connections.
Tips for navigating this Venus Retrograde:
Pay attention to the house/area of life where you have Aries in your chart and do some reflection on your priorities in that realm.
Aries is impulsive and wants and expects fast action and results. Watch for impulsivity in this area of your life.
Sometimes change is slow and requires patience and careful timing, and in my case - lots more proofreading!
Spring Equinox
The Spring Equinox occurs on March 20, marking the astronomical beginning of spring. It symbolizes balance, renewal, and new beginnings.
When the Sun enters Aries, themes include igniting a fire of passion and action. It's a time for setting intentions, embracing change, and stepping into your power.
Honor the changing seasons and the coming of spring by doing some symbolic act.
Set intentions for the coming season.
Connect with nature and celebrate the rebirth of life.
In the Spring Equinox chart we have Mars opposing the ASC with Chiron in a T-square. Moon is trine Mercury and Venus, which are both retrograde. Sun is conjunct Neptune at the anaretic, 29th degree of Pisces. Neptune is the planet of illusion. By this stage we may still be operating with some sort of Illusions that we will eventually have to dissolve or shed during this Year of the Snake. We face abrupt new marching orders in Aries in this turn of the wheel as the Sun clocks in a new lap and enters a new cycle of the zodiac while the Nodes sit very near with Neptune in late Pisces.
Mercury Retrograde Mar 15 – Apr 6-7
Mercury will be retrograde in Pisces from March 15 to April 7 from 9 Aries to 26 Pisces. Interestingly, this will occur on the same degree as the Solar Eclipse this spring. Mercury will form conjunctions with Sun, Venus, Neptune, Node and Saturn and then as it goes direct, it will form most of those conjunctions again as it passes by each one going forward. Mercury catches back up with slow moving Neptune on April 15 just in time for tax day. This transit impacts the early degrees of Aries to 26 Pisces, so again late mutable and early cardinal placements will be impacted.
.
Themes and effects:
Communication breakdowns, travel delays, and technological glitches are common during Mercury Retrograde.
This period can also bring opportunities for introspection, re-evaluation, and creative problem-solving.
Tips for navigating Mercury Retrograde:
Double-check travel arrangements and important documents.
Back up electronic devices and avoid making major purchases.
Practice patience and clear communication.
Embrace the opportunity for self-reflection and creative pursuits.
Hold off on major decisions until all information has been gathered and vetted. “Sleep on it for at least three days,” is a good motto to use at this time.
Expect jarring announcements of a martial nature or reversals.
Eclipse Season
Every six months we experience a pair of eclipses that occur within a 2-week period along with the cycles of the Sun and Moon. There will be a Lunar and Solar eclipse occurring in March and another pair that occurs in the fall. This spring we have a Blood Moon Total Lunar Eclipse that occurs with the Moon in Virgo on March 14.
March 14th is also PIE day (3.14), daylight savings time, and Einstein’s birthday.
Some very notable things in this chart are:
The fact that Saturn is conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon, this will put more weight towards stubborn, blind faith and less fact checking. While it may seem someone is just trying to be critical or nit-picky, fact-checking serves its purpose.
Mercury sits at 9 Aries, which is a key degree of Aries in all of the happenings this spring.
If this eclipse makes contact with your natal planets or key placements, expect at least a 6 month window of change with beginnings or endings. Moreover, the significance of the world point of zero Aries being involved with Neptune and Saturn this year cannot be understated. This points to greater geo-political, economic, and societal shifts.
Two weeks later, a partial Solar Eclipse occurs at 9 Aries on Mar 29 in the US. This eclipse will bring a surge of energy and new beginnings. It's a time for taking bold steps and pursuing your passions.
Tips for navigating this eclipse:
Be mindful of extra emotions and energy levels. Sun, Mercury, and Moon in Aries could make for volatile communication. Mars is in Cancer adds territorial and extra-protective energy.
Avoid making major decisions during eclipse periods.
Embrace the opportunity for transformation and growth.

Outer Planets Changing Signs from Earth/Water to Fire/Air in 2025
Pluto, Uranus, Neptune as well as Saturn all change sign from feminine signs to masculine fire/air signs. But, as stated in a previous post, we will spend half of 2025 retrograding back into previous signs of these outer planets in the second half of the year, so it is a transitional year, one in which we may need to finish up old business of these previous signs from 2024 and prepare for the future from 2026-2030.
The Upside?
The years 1929 and 2001 were also both “Snake” years, and humanity survived them both. That is the upside. In 2025 we are also undergoing massive societal shifts. One of my respected mentors, Kim McSherry gave 2025 the theme of “Teetering on the Brink,” in her annual workshop and I chuckled this week when I was listening to the Astrology Podcast guest, Astrologer Austin Coppock who called 2025 “Cyperpunk Clown-pocolypse.”
All that aside, don’t let 2025 send you into a doom spiral. A snake year can also bring opportunities for transformation and reflection if you do so with carefully agility like a snake. With awareness and understanding of what these current transits indicate, we can improve our ability to respond appropriately to the conditions and situations we face.
