OK. I love Dolly...she has alway been a huge inspiration, but now I love her even more. This was fascinating. I am a Capricorn as well, but never felt I totally fit the bill. Always floating between careers and more obsessively creative than practical. This gave me a lot of insight and a new way to frame it all. At 47, I totally want to be Dolly when I "grow up."
Obsessively creative is how I would describe Dolly too. We never listened to country music growing up, but I was fascinated by her in the movies, particularly 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias. I was amazed by how she continually reinvented herself throughout her career, how adaptable she was and then she did the whole literacy advocacy thing and that sealed it for me. She deeply loves her community and shows those traditional ties to family and lineage. Lots to admire there. Then there’s her catalog of amazing songs and the whole connection between her and Whitney Houston’s charts are impressive. Saying to NO to Elvis is a pretty bold commitment to your own creativity. I really admire that in an era where I am sure the record labels cared very little about her autonomy.
