The Sacred Geometry of Washington D.C. and the Goddess Imagery of America
A Portal to Past and Future
On June 4th I was honored to host, The Goddesses of America, facilitated by Lila Tresemer. Lila presented an overview of the sacred geometry built into the design of Washington, DC and the Goddess imagery that is incorporated into the architecture of our nation’s capital. Lila leads annual in-person tours, educating participants on the city’s landmarks, and guiding groups through spiritual and meditative experiences on the national mall. Her experience and work on ceremonial arts with Anastacia Nutt and Sacred Earth Activism dates back decades. Who better to give us this virtual tour of DC and a little armchair travel?
The history of the city’s design is more than just unique, in Tresemer’s words, “DC is a template for a mystery.” It’s geography, juxtaposition and design are not accidental, they are precise and intentional and based on the sacred geometry and insights of masonic origins.
Washington D.C.’s original designs came from Pierre Charles L’Enfant, a French-American artist, professor, and military engineer. L’Enfant was primarily trained as an artist and was hand selected by George Washington to design the city. I also heard about Benjamin Banneker, an African American, who was involved in its design too. L’Enfant’s vision and brilliance in planning the city’s layout was and still is poorly understood and unappreciated.
We focused on the geometric positions of five major landmarks: 1.) the Capitol building in the east, 2.) the Lincoln Memorial to the west, 3.) the White House to the north, 4.) the Jefferson building to the south, and 5.) in the center, the Washington Monument. It is through these significant structures and hidden among their architecture that we find Goddess images of America.
The name District of Columbia, comes from Columba, “the Dove.” The dove represents spirit, the holy spirit, and peace.
The Goddess image of Ceres, the Goddess of Fertility, lies in the south, the Goddess of Freedom which sits on top of the capitol building is in the East, the Goddess of Peace to the west with the Lincoln Memorial, and the Goddess of Justice near the White House to the north. Lila goes into much more depth about working with these Goddess images in her 7-part online course, which is being made into a book.
Being an astrologer following last night’s presentation, I began to take a look at the chart for the Washington Monument in the heart of the city. The laying of its second cornerstone occurred August 8, 1880 and had an exact time of 10:59am. (Exact times are always interesting to astrologers.)
Planning and fundraising for the Washington Monument began in 1830’s, with the first foundation being laid in 1848. But, problems beset it: funding, engineering issues, and the Civil War all caused major delays. This second foundation was laid in 1880. On the outer ring is the chart for the completion of the Washington Monument in 1884. Here I am using sidereal zodiac as per the practices taught by David Tresemer, Lila’s husband, at the Starhouse.
The long period of time that it took to construct the Washington Monument seems important here as the ASC of the completion chart is conjunct the Saturn of the second cornerstone chart. Saturn is in its fall in Aries in the 7th house. (By tropical zodiac, Saturn would still be in Aries, even closer to the angle of the chart.)
